"Don't Quote Me..."

Did you ever meet a student who loved his school?

Danielle, a 7th grader, from Leland, Mississippi - "My grandmother worked here. Where I live, you have to carry something to protect yourself with, because every time you look around, some people behind your back want to jump you."

Nathan, a 7th grader - "I came here for a better education. I used to carry knives with me when I'd go to school."

Lakia, 9th grader from Atlanta - "I like it. Once you get used to it, it's nice. My mom thought it would be a good experience for me. There's a lot of rules."

Luvon, from Alabama. - "It's straight. It's all right. It's a good school for young, black males and females. I came here to get a good education, but it was my parent's idea."

JEMEL, a 10th grader from Baltimore, Maryland - "I like the children here - the people. It's a different variety of kids such as I'm used to at home. Like, you're around Baltimorians at home, where here, you meet people from Mississippi, you meet people from Eboli, Ethiopia! - they're here from everywhere. It's like a wonderful experience. I made the decision that I didn't want to be around my family. I wanted to go out on my own and try and do stuff my own way."
