Greetings from California!

(Clockwise, from top, left) - The soda jerk serves up a vanilla shake at the Levi-Marks store, in Ramona, built in 1886. ::: Citrus grove in a valley south of Escondido. ::: The Hollywood sign, as seen from the L.A. Observatory (the one in "Rebel Without a Cause.") ::: Only in California... ::: A bad lunch day at Dana's Restaurant, in Imperial. ::: I like it when you can see an entire cloud floating by, and also it's entire shadow.

But, Could Mark Live Here? This place has incredible scenery, tropical-to-alpine climates big cities, quaint, small towns and even an ocean - and I've only seen the southern third of the state! Growing up on the east coast, you are taught that California is actually a different planet, and that you have to be either a movie star or worse to live out here, but I have found it to be a beautiful and friendly place.

Downside: 3,000 miles of desert and mountains between here and everybody I know.
